Message from Jan Fennell

This year’s theme is going to be focused on a subject close to a lot of hearts – rescue dogs. Too often they are misunderstood, as if the term “rescue” means that they are beyond help, or so damaged that they could even be dangerous. The truth is that they are dogs just like any other, with the only difference being that they have been let down by human beings somewhere on the way.

Thankfully, there are thousands of people all over the world dedicated to saving, protecting and re-homing these wonderful dogs into loving homes. My own personal experience with my little Jack Russell, Barmie, was one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life and helped me to understand dogs in immeasurable ways.

Whether you are a volunteer in a centre, happy owner of a rescue dog or merely interested in giving support, let’s make a special effort this year to bring more joy to these dogs and of course to any current or potential dog owners. Remember always, the purpose of IDOD is to have fun!

If you are not fortunate enough to have a dog of your own at present, then why not give some time to a local rescue centre? Whatever you can come up with, please let us know and we will post the information on our Events page. If you are able to take photos we would like you to send them to us in JPG format, as we would also like to share them with other dog publications.
